In the alternative avant-garde culture of the 1960s Peter Belenok occupies a special place: He is a recognized pioneer of photo-realistic strategies. His revelations appeared almost simultaneously with European photo-realism and the hyper-realism of the post-war American school. He jokingly called his own artistic system “panic realism” – his compositions are filled with numerous human figures running away and flying. They stay in outer space, and are followed by phantoms and jellyfish-like plasmas, which are reproduced like clones in fantastic cinematography.
