Anatoly Brusilovsky 04.06.1932
The world of Anatoly Brusilovsky begins with his workshop, a unique “Parisian- Moscow garret” – a three-dimensional collage embracing a mode of life, art, love, and culture where everything converges without seams, differences, and hierarchies. In its space reigns a magician-artist who spiritualizes objects and turns them back again into straight reality. He “glues” together the incompatible: continents and social life, poetry and prose, the profane and mystical, operating with modernist synthesis and postmodernist deconstructivism.
His speech is inherent with the suggestion (the inspiring) also felt in an artifact, in memoirs, a get-together on varnishing days, and toasts around the holiday table. His manner is always easy, overflowing all boundaries – Zamoskvorechiye; Kharkov; the Soviet Union; a frame of film and the square of the movie screen in the artist’s own cinematography; the optics of his lens and the spaces of his collage where there appears a paradoxical fashion – a still life, “automatic writing”, a meeting of the hat with the boot – Italy.
